What is a poly solar panel?
PolyCrystalline or MultiCrystalline solar panels are solar panels that consist of several
crystals of silicon in a single PV cell. Several fragments of silicon are melted together to
form the wafers of polycrystalline solar panels.
Polycrystalline panels have lower efficiency rates typically in the 13-16%
range. Monocrystalline panels have higher efficiencies in the range of 15-20%.
Because of the lower efficiency rate they are not as space-efficient since they
produce less power per square foot.
Solar panels in series are optimal in unshaded conditions. If shade covers a
single panel of your series array, it will bring down the whole systems power output. Each panel in a series connection is critical. Solar panels in series are also best if you need a low-amperage system.
